Gamut Mapping Option: Allow dimming of project to proofing media brightness
The option ‚Allow dimming Project to Proofing Media Brightness' is relevant if the white point of the production substrate is brighter than the proofing media, meaning if the paper white of the project media is not in the gamut of the proofer. The option ‚Allow dimming Project to Proofing Media Brightness' controls how the brightness difference between source and simulation color space will be handled during the profile calculation.
Option ON (default)
The project color space (source) will be scaled in a way that the white point of the project matches the paper white of the proofing media. The aim of adjusting the brightness before the profile calculation is to reduce clipping artefacts in the highlights of the proofs and to achieve a satisfying visual result. Due to the scaling, all colors of the project color space (in gamut, as well as out of gamut values) are adjusted/darkened, which might be a disadvantage when the proofs are verified colorimetrically.
Option OFF
The brightness of the project color space remains unchanged before the profile calculation. All in-gamut values of the project color space will be applied colorimetrically. The part of the project color space, which is out of the proofer gamut will be reduced to the proofer gamut during the profile calculation. The aim of deactivating the brightness adjustment is a colorimetric application of the project color space. Possible visual effects, such as loss of detail in the highlights of the proofs, are accepted.
